The Buffalo Sabres Western Canada road trip continues Thursday night in an epic showdown with the Calgary Flames. Will they keep up their winning ways?

The Buffalo Sabres were outplayed on Tuesday night against the Edmonton Oilers. If you watched that game, you will know this. They just happened to score more points than their opponents and had one great period where everything went right, and it ended with a big win.

Tonight, the Sabres face the Flames. And the last time these two teams met, Buffalo recorded its first shutout win since 2019 in an overtime thriller. This year, however, the Flames are looking pretty tough, with the likes of Jonathan Huberdeau (Sabres may have heard of him), Nikita Zadorov, MacKenzie Weegar, and Nazem Kadri.

Overall, the Flames have a newer look to them, but they have shown early that this new-look team does not lack chemistry. Do the Sabres have a chance here? Let’s talk about it.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Flames Odds – Game 4

Per Fan Duel, the Buffalo Sabres are currently +1.5 underdogs against the Flames. Their current Over/Under sits at 6.5, and the Sabres hold a +245 moneyline. The moneyline for the Flames is -315.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Flames Prediction – Game 4

As you can see, the Sabres are heavier underdogs vs. the Flames than they were just a few days ago against the Oilers. And if you go back and watch film from that Sabres-Oilers matchup, you will likely come to the same conclusion as myself: The Sabres should have lost that game.

This is a team that was outmuscled and outmatched in the third period, allowing 23 SOG compared to creating just five of their own. They won, thanks to goaltender Eric Comrie. But if the Sabres play like that for three periods, or even a single period tonight, don’t expect them to get lucky again.

I’m projecting the Flames to take this game 6-3, and it will serve as a valuable lesson for the Sabres going forward: Play all three periods, or expect to lose big. Sorry for the harsh words and prediction, but goaltenders can only bail out their team so many times.
