The Buffalo Sabres return to the ice after a 10-day layover thanks to a major winter storm that hit the area, which forced two games to be postponed.

Once upon a time, the sports world undervalued the luxury of rest. And even today, it is something that most sports fans don’t understand. Many believe the Buffalo Sabres will be rusty for tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.

And perhaps we will see some rust. But we are also going to see a team that had an opportunity to rest near midseason, basically a bye week in my eyes.

Rest isn’t a bad thing, as many of my gym friends, current and past like to remind the, do as I say, not as I do workout fanatic that I am. Winter or summer, it’s not uncommon to see me lifting or running for three hours a day, for weeks on end. Not the greatest of ideas, and eventually, I’m forced to dramatically curtail my workouts for a week or two.

Once I gain the courage to do this, then I’m back at it, stronger and feeling better than before. And this is why I’m expecting little rust from the Sabres tonight; They had roughly 10 days of rest, give a day or two. That’s a week and a half; not too little, not too much, and after 32 games. Perfect.

Buffalo Sabres won’t be as rusty as you think

If this team was forced to take a month off, then I would be writing from a different angle. But 10 days? Those 10 days off will be more beneficial than you think. Take it from a guy who spent six years working in the fitness industry and graduated college with a degree in wellness and fitness.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings are playing on a back-to-back, one that saw them travel to Pittsburgh to face the Penguins and now, to Buffalo. You got a well-rested Buffalo Sabres team vs. a group that fought tooth and nail to snag an overtime win last night.

Therefore, I like the Blue and Gold’s chances a lot in this one, and far more than most in the community. Is this guaranteeing a win? No, the Red Wings are a good hockey team. But as for the belief the Sabres will look completely lost, I digress. Expect a hardfought game tonight.
