Buffalo Sabres points streak snaps in loss to Carolina
All good things come to an end, and the Buffalo Sabres points streak is no different. Now, they get nine days to think about it.
The Buffalo Sabres looked like a bad hockey team tonight. And usually, I’m the type of fan who flips when they lose, as was the case following their debacle early last month against the Philadelphia Flyers.
But against the Carolina Hurricanes, I’ll cut them a bit of slack. You have an older, experienced hockey team that will likely compete for a Stanley Cup this season against the league’s youngest team in Buffalo.
Games with such a discrepancy in experience happen. Plus, you can’t be too down and out regarding the Sabres: This is a team in playoff contention at the All-Star break.
Yeah, they’re 26-20-4 (56 points), and they have ground to make up. But at least we’re not thinking about the NHL Draft, right? We’re thinking about the playoffs for the first time in forever, and it feels good.
Buffalo Sabres are down, but they’re not out
Yeah, they’re down and they’re going to be down. Tonight’s loss will be on their minds, that’s for sure. But it’s something to grow on, and I’ll be frank: The Sabres are going to learn and they are going to grow from it.
Just like they grew and learned following their eight-game losing streak in November. And when they slipped up in January, they embarked on a seven-game points streak during the second half of the month.
Following the All-Star break, you’re going to see this occur again. So yeah, they lost to an elite hockey team. Big deal. Really, we’ve seen them beat some of the best teams out there and they had one measly slip up tonight.
They’ll see what worked, what didn’t work, then go back to work and fix the issue. Until then, they got a nine day break and we got an All-Star Game to watch. So enjoy the break, watch the Amerks if you need your hockey fix, when the 11th rolls around, enjoy the way Buffalo bounces back.
