The Buffalo Sabres struck gold last July when they drafted Jiri Kulich with the 28th overall pick, and he continues to grow down in Rochester.
While the Buffalo Sabres continue to contend for the wild card, we can only imagine what this team is going to look like when prospects such as Jiri Kulich and Matt Savoie eventually work their way up to the NHL level. It could happen as early as next season, but 2024-25 may be the most realistic timeframe for both prospects.
In that span, you will see them continue to grow, but there are other times they will flat out dominate. That was the case with Jiri Kulich recently, as he took home the title of AHL Player of the Week.
Kulich was a huge part of the Amerks back-to-back-to-back wins between February 24th and February 26th, where the Red, White, and Blue outscored opponents 20-6. In those contests, Kulich had six points, three goals, and three assists, helping Rochester climb into fourth place in the North Division standings.
Buffalo Sabres prospect Jiri Kulich shines once again
So far, it’s been a remarkable season for Kulich. Earlier this year, he was one of the best players to take the ice for the 2023 IIHF World Juniors. Here in Rochester, Kulich has 33 points in 42 contests, which ranks fourth on the team, and he’s just four points behind team leader, Lukas Rousek.
With 15 goals on the season, Kulich is behind only Linus Weissbach and Brett Murray, and his 18 assists rank fifth. Want more fun? He is also third on the team in points per game with 0.79 among players who started at least 30 games for the Amerks.
Overall, Kulich is going to help fuel some phenomenal Buffalo Sabres teams once he works his way onto their roster. If the Blue and Gold can compete for a wild card spot without the likes of Kulich and Savoie on the roster, what will this team look like when the duo joins the likes of Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, and Company?
