No one on the Buffalo Sabres moved around the lineup as much as Jordan Greenway late in the season. Will he find a permanent role in 2023-24?

Jordan Greenway was acquired at the NHL trade deadline by the Buffalo Sabres last season. Head coach Don Granato loves Greenway and constantly “pounded the table” for general manager Kevyn Adams to get him. For the rest of the year, Greenway found himself playing on different lines.

He started out playing in the bottom six and would eventually find his way on a line with Tage Thompson at one point. It’s pretty understandable why the Sabres did this. When you bring in a new player, you want to see where he would fit in the best.

Going into next season where does Greenway fit into the lineup? I think it’s safe to say he will be on the main roster partly because of his playing style. We all know Jordan is a physical player and that’s something Buffalo desperately needs on the roster.

Even Sabres management said Greenway was brought in to stop Buffalo “being bullied around” from other teams who have tons on physicality on their roster. Let’s just take a rundown of the roster and the lines.

Where does Jordan Greenway fit in the Buffalo Sabres lineup?

Do we think Greenway will be on the first line? For the good part of last season, the Sabres first line was Jeff Skinner, Tage Thompson, and Alex Tuch. Toward the end of the season, Buffalo shuffled their lines and as mentioned earlier, Greenway found his was on the first line.

At most times last year, the Sabres second line was their best line. The “Kid Line” featured JJ Peterka, Dylan Cozens, and Jack Quinn. Could Greenway possibly play on the second line? If you ask me, I think Greenway could be on the third line in the 2023-24 season.

I believe the top six is all good to go. The Buffalo Sabres will definitely need players in the bottom six and Greenway could be a good depth piece to have. We all know Kyle Okposo will be back for another season but there are some unsolved mysteries.

What’s going to happen with Casey Mittelstadt? Is Victor Olofsson going to get moved? Then you have possible prospects who could make their way on the roster. It’ll be interesting to see what Buffalo does with Greenway but I predict he will be on the third line to at least start next year.
