For this edition of “How They Fared,” we’re exploring how the Buffalo Sabres looked against the Boston Bruins in 2022-23.

We are onto the third installment of “How They Fared.” In this next edition, we take a look at how the Buffalo Sabres fared against the Boston Bruins. Even though Boston lost in the first round, they had one of the most historic seasons in NHL history.

As tough as the Atlantic Division was this season, no team was tougher to face than the Bruins. Let’s take a look at the four meetings between these two teams. Buffalo hosted the first meeting back on November 12th. Unfortunately, this was taking place in what would be the Sabres longest losing streak during the season.

It started out great for Buffalo as Tage Thompson would get the scoring started just a few minutes into the game. That would be the only goal the Sabres would score as the Bruins would get three unanswered goals, earning them the 3-1 win.

For the second meeting, it was a Saturday matinee to close out the year of 2022 as they would faceoff on New Year’s Eve. David Pastrnak would get the Bruins on the board first but that would not last long as Thompson would score a couple of minutes later.

Buffalo Sabres enjoyed an improbable win over Boston to close out 2022

Buffalo had the lead going into the third period as Alex Tuch would score back in the second. However, the Sabres were trailing late and killed off a 5-on-3. With around two minutes remaining in the third, Dylan Cozens would even up the game, sending it to overtime.

Tuch would score the game winning goal, giving the Sabres the 3-2 victory and ending 2022 on a good note. Ukko Pekka Luukkonen also played a great game and was a huge reason why Buffalo was victorious.

Fast forward to March, Boston would take both games in blowout fashion as they would score seven goals in each game. Even though the Bruins would win three of the four games, it was at least good to see the youngest team in the NHL earn a win against the best team in the league.
