Up next on “How They Fared”, we take a look at how the Buffalo Sabres did against the Calgary Flames during the 2022-23 regular season.

On the next installment of “How They Fared“, we take a look at the two games between the Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames. Buffalo was a young group while the Flames were viewed as a playoff contender.

They would faceoff just three weeks into the season. Buffalo would be on their Western Canada road trip and after beating the Oilers in Edmonton, they would look to beat the other team in Alberta. After letting up the first goal, the Sabres would score three unanswered goals and take a 3-1 lead going into the second period.

Not even a minute in, Alex Tuch would make it 4-1. As the period was coming to an end, the Flames would make it a two score game heading into the final period. In the opening couple minutes, former Sabre Nikita Zadorov would make it 4-3.

Tuch would get his hat trick however as he would score the next two goals, giving the Sabres the 6-3 victory. Buffalo and Calgary would not see each other until February and spoiler alert, it was a completely different result.

Buffalo Sabres split season series with the Flames

It would be Buffalo’s first game back after the All Star break and bye week. The first period started out great for the Sabres. After the first 20 minutes, Buffalo had a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately for the Blue and Gold, the next 40 minutes would be a complete nightmare.

Two goals in 20 seconds for Calgary would even up the game. To make a long story short, the Flames would score five more goals and would win the game 7-2. It was a very terrible first game back for the Sabres and having it happen at home did not make it any better.

It was a split between the two teams and when all was said and done, Buffalo was point out while Calgary was two points out. I guess it was fair that the road team won each game and we’ll see what next season has in store.
