On the next installment of ‘How They Fared,’ we take a deeper dive into the two games between the Buffalo Sabres and Dallas Stars.

When you think of meetings between the Buffalo Sabres and Dallas Stars, I’m sure the first thing you think of is the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals. Unfortunately for Sabres fans, it ended with the Stars winning the Stanley Cup thanks to a controversial goal courtesy of Brett Hull.

But that’s in the past. So, how did the Sabres fare against the Stars last season? The first of two meetings took place in Dallas back in January. At this time, Buffalo was playing some great hockey and were one of the hottest teams in the NHL.

For some whatever reason, playing in Dallas was a house of horrors for Buffalo. Speaking of horror, the Sabres found themselves losing 1-0 just a couple of minutes into the game thanks to Stars captain Jamie Benn.

About ten minutes later, Rasmus Dahlin tied the game and the score stayed tied after the first period. The second period saw no scoring and we would be heading into the third period still tied 1-1. Just like Dallas did in the first, Buffalo scored an early goal courtesy of Victor Olofsson.

A few minutes later however, Jason Robertson made it 2-2. Despite great chances from both teams, they would need more than 60 minutes to determine the winner. Just 56 seconds into overtime, Owen Power scored his first goal of the season and it couldn’t come at a better time as Buffalo defeated Dallas.

Buffalo Sabres split with the Dallas Stars in 2022-23

Let’s fast forward to March for the final game of the season between Buffalo and Dallas. The last game was low scoring. Spoiler alert: This one wasn’t and it was a game the Sabres would like to forget.

Just 10 seconds after the Stars made it 3-0, Jordan Greenway scored his first goal as a Sabre to make it 3-1 Dallas after the first 20 minutes. I’m going to save you some time. Despite scoring some goals, the Stars would cruise to a 10-4 victory.

Giving up 10 goals is bad enough, but to do it in front of your home fans is just as bad. It was a very horrid game from the Sabres and not much more needs to be said.
