We have made it!! This is the final installment of the “How They Fared” series. We have talked about how the Buffalo Sabres did against each team in the NHL in 2022-23. For the final edition, we take a look at how the Sabres fared against the Winnipeg Jets.
Both teams saw each other in January, with both games taking place two weeks apart. The Sabres hosted the Jets for the first meeting. There was only one goal scored in the first period and it belonged to the Jets as Dylan Samberg registered a goal and Winnipeg had a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play.
Victor Olofsson tied the game up but just a couple of minutes later, Winnipeg regained the lead thanks to Josh Morrissey and the Sabres found themselves trailing 2-1 heading into the third period.
Tyson Jost tied the game 2-2 just a few minutes into the period. Unfortunately for Buffalo, they were trailing again. The Jets scored an empty netter and went on to win the game by a final score of 4-2.
Buffalo had a chance to split the season series as they met up with the Jets in Winnipeg just 14 days later. After a scoreless first period, it was a good second period for the Sabres as they had a 2-0 lead heading into the second intermission courtesy of Owen Power and Tage Thompson.
Victor Olofsson made it 3-0 Buffalo halfway through the third period on the power play. In the last few minutes of the game, Winnipeg scored two goals but could not score a third and the Sabres won the game 3-2.
This game was the third game of a four game road trip. Buffalo defeated Dallas and St. Louis in a back to back then went on to win this one. Despite losing to Minnesota in a shootout a couple of days later, it was a very successful road trip.
