Buffalo Sabres: Jeff Skinner’s most mind-boggling stats from 2022-23
Buffalo Sabres forward Jeff Skinner always entertains us with his goal song selection, but some of his stats from last year are more entertaining.
No one on the Buffalo Sabres is more entertaining than Jeff Skinner, from his style of play to his goal songs. But when you further break down Skinner’s 2022-23 statistics past the goals and overall points total, you will quickly realize that he is one of the league’s best players offensively.
Below, you will find more than a few advanced statistics where Skinner finished in the Top 30 league-wide. Some of these you may have already expected, but others will come as a surprise.
Buffalo Sabres winger Jeff Skinner’s most mind-boggling stats from 2022-23
1 – 1.53 goals per 60 minutes
No one on the Buffalo Sabres finished higher than Tage Thompson’s 1.94 goals per 60, which ranked third in the NHL. But Skinner tied for 24th with Jamie Benn and John Tavares. He finished third on the Sabres overall, with Victor Olofsson taking the second place spot with 1.56 per 60, good for 21st overall.
2 – 3.58 points per 60 minutes
While Tage also dominated this category and finished eighth overall in the league, Jeff Skinner wasn’t far behind with 3.58 points per 60, good for a 13th place finish. Rivals like Brayden Point, Mitchell Marner, and William Nylander were just a few of many players to finish behind Skinner in the category.
3 – 11.94 medium danger xGoals
Skinner’s 11.94 medium danger xGoals ranked him just inside the Top 30 at 27th overall. This not only put him ahead of other NHL stars like Nylander and Kirill Kaprizov, but he also finished ahead of linemate Tage Thompson, who had 11.44.
4 – +56 on-ice goal differential
You may have thought Tage would lead the Buffalo Sabres in this category, but the honor instead belongs to Skinner, who tied for 21st in the league at +56. Rasmus Dahlin finished second on the team in the category at +47, tying for 38th overall.
5 – 29 rebounds created
Our friends, the Tkachuk Brothers, may rule this category. But Skinner tied for 18th in the league with 29 of them, showing that he can quickly create more scoring chances for his team.
I’m expecting more rebounds in 2023-24, and not just among Jeff Skinner. That being said, expect the Buffalo Sabres entire first line to pitch in for this one, and finish within or near the league’s Top 30.
