So far, the Buffalo Sabres are continuing their strong projected 2023-24 outing into February. Will it continue, or could they falter?
Through 49 games in 2023-24, I’m projecting the Buffalo Sabres to stand at a solid 29-16-4 (62 points) on the season. And that trend will continue on February 6th when the Blue and Gold open the month at home vs. the Dallas Stars.
You remember what happened when these two teams faced off at KeyBank Center last season. Dallas took the game in a 10-4 blowout, so it’s safe to say the Sabres will come into this one with a chip on their shoulder, winning by two goals.
The homestand continues with games vs. the St. Louis Blues, Los Angeles Kings, and the Florida Panthers. If there is one game the Sabres should take in this bunch, it’s against St. Louis, and it will give them their 31st win of the year.
Buffalo Sabres could hit turbulence in the middle of February
Despite their blowout win in this building vs. the Kings last season, LA takes it in what could be an upset before the Blue and Gold once again have a tough time vs. their rivals from Sunrise. However, the Buffalo-Florida outings this year should be memorable, hard-hitting affairs, so they will take an overtime loss here.
Buffalo will then take a one-off road trip to St. Paul to face the Minnesota Wild. And just like the wild outings they had against Minnesota last year, don’t expect anything different here. But the Sabres will take this one in what will once again be a game that goes into overtime.
To cap off their sixth game of the month, and Part I of the Sabres projection in February, they return home to face the Anaheim Ducks. Because of the quick back-and-forth with just one day in between, the Ducks are likely to take advantage of the Sabres and snag the W, but Buffalo flips the tables on their rebuilding foes from the West Coast, and they squeak out a win.
- Record through the first half of February: 4-1-1
- Record through 55 games: 33-17-5 (71 points)
