We are now officially over the halfway mark in our 75 In 75 Series for the Buffalo Sabres 2023-24 season, so let’s kick off the second half with a bang.

Well, well, well, we are now just five away weeks from the season-opening game between the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers. The Prospects Challenge is in just 10 days, and on October 21st, the Blue and Gold are bringing back the Goatheads – becoming the Red and Black (or Black and Red) for those contests, and 15 total.

Therefore, for Prediction #38, it’s time to get bold on how many points the Sabres will earn in their legendary throwback. Lately, I’ve been associating these predictions with numbers, but 30 points is the highest they can accumulate in these jerseys for 2023-24.

However, we know the Sabres snagged plenty of wins last season when they wore the Goathead, so let’s go on a limb and state they will compile a record of 11-1-3 (25 points) in the black. Yeah, that prediction could be a little too bold. But if you told me last season that they’d win all but two games in the Goatheads, with one loss coming in overtime, I’d have laughed like none other.

Buffalo Sabres snag 25 points in the Goatheads for 2023-24

Sure, 25 points in an alternate uniform is a wild number. But like I said, Buffalo showed us last season that there was something magical about those iconic black jerseys. Not that I’m the superstitious type, but hey, is it any coincidence they played so well in them between 1996 and 2006?

History is on their side, and with a better team on paper for the upcoming season, I like their chances here. Yes, there is always that random chance Buffalo falters in their legendary black and red jerseys. But until they fall back to earth wearing them, there is nothing wrong with showing some optimism.

The Buffalo Sabres will enjoy another good season, and the Goatheads will see plenty more W’s as a result. This is a team that started turning the corner last year, and they have given us a reason to get bold 38 times so far here at Sabre Noise.
