The Buffalo Sabres played pretty well in the black Goathead jerseys last year. For this season, here are the games they will be wearing them.
Last year, the Buffalo Sabres brought back the black Goathead jerseys for the first time since the 2005-2006 season. Well the team will be wearing them once again 15 times this season!
They will wear them for the first time against the New York Islanders on October 21st. Just a week later, they will wear them on Hockey Halloween as they will take on the Colorado Avalanche in a Sunday matinee.
A few days later, they will don them once again as they host the Philadelphia Flyers. Hopefully it goes better than the last time they wore them against the Flyers. The next time they will bring them onto the ice is on December 9th when the Montreal Canadiens come to town.
Just 10 days later, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be the lucky visiting team who will experience the evil of the black and red jerseys…hopefully. Buffalo will wear the Goathead for the final time in 2023 when the Boston Bruins face off against the Sabres on December 27th.
Turning the page to 2024, January 11th will be the first time we see them in the New Year as the Ottawa Senators will pay a visit. Six days later, Connor Bedard will see the Goatheads as the Chicago Blackhawks come to town.
The Sabres will wear the Goatheads twice in the month of February when the Dallas Stars and Los Angeles Kings come to Buffalo one week apart from each other. I believe the Kings have one of the best home and away jerseys in the league, so I’m looking forward to another matchup with the Goatheads.
In the month of March, they will wear them four times as Buffalo will host the Vegas Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets, Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. For the final time of the 2023-24 season, the Sabres will wear the Goatheads against the Washington Capitals for a Dyngus Day celebration. Will they have better luck like they did last year? We’ll see but I’m very much looking forward to seeing them in the goatheads once again.
