3 – Eric Comrie, G
Eric Comrie is the clear favorite to wind up in Rochester if he can clear waivers if and when the Buffalo Sabres roll with a pair of young goalies. This is the 28-year-old’s first chance to put a (mostly) bad 2022-23 season behind him and close any potential gap on Devon Levi and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.
Last year, Comrie’s struggles started in the preseason, and they carried over into October. Then came the lower-body injury in November, and when he returned, Comrie never seemed to gain any traction in the net.
He is just a pair of seasons removed from snagging a 0.920 save percentage as the backup to Connor Hellebuyck during his days in Winnipeg. Therefore, Comrie has shown in the past he can be an effective goaltender; he just has yet to show he can do this consistently with the Buffalo Sabres.
