The Buffalo Sabres are consistently inconsistent so far in 2023-24
So far this season, the Buffalo Sabres have been very inconsistent. Here is a deeper dive into what’s going on with the much-maligned team.
It’s been a very interesting first two months for the Buffalo Sabres. So far this season, the Sabres have been playing .500 hockey. For a team that had expectations from the fanbase, it’s fair to say the 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres have not met expectations.
If I had to describe them this season, they are consistently inconsistent. What do I mean by that? To put it lightly, they are very, very, very inconsistent. Buffalo is a strange team, they don’t have that identity we saw the last couple of years.
One game they look out of it and the next game they look like a Stanley Cup contender. I just don’t understand the reasoning behind it, I really don’t. There’s an argument that them being the youngest team in the NHL could have something to do with it but I don’t see that being the case.
Inconsistencies have been the story of the 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres
They were the youngest team in the NHL last season and had a winning record for a good portion of the 82-game schedule. As for this season, the team is pretty much the same roster. There are so many different factors here.
Goaltending and defense have been inconsistent at times, the power play is good and bad. At most times, their high-powered offense has been a no-show but recently, they have looked more like themselves.
As we enter the month of December, the Buffalo Sabres will have a very loaded schedule with 15 games in the final month of 2023. You can’t make assumptions about a team after a small sample size, but this is the time they need to find their game.
Again, I don’t know why they are playing like this but if this team is serious about making the playoffs, it feels like this is the time to do it. We’ll see what happens but Buffalo has to stop being consistently inconsistent.
