5 players the Buffalo Sabres might trade away during the 2025-26 season

These five players could be entering their final season with Buffalo depending on how the season goes.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen

The next player is an interesting one because he just signed a five-year extension last summer with the Sabres, so this season will be the first year of that new contract. However, the reason he is on the list is that he is coming off a disappointing season with a career-low save percentage of .887 and a goals against average of 3.20.

At the trade deadline, goalies are a hot commodity, and there might be some teams that could convince themselves they can help Ukko-Pekka Lukkonen bounce back if he struggles again this season. For the Sabres, even though he has five years left under contract, they may be motivated to move him, especially with Devon Levi under contract, as this is the last year without a no-movement clause in his contract.

Jason Zucker

One of the pleasant surprises last season was Jason Zucker, who had 21 goals (including 11 power play goals) and 32 assists. The Sabres signed him as a free agent last summer to a one-year deal and impressed enough to earn a two-year extension during the season.

However, he will be turning 34 this season, and if the Sabres are struggling, this is the type of player that almost certainly could be traded. He is unlikely to be playing at this level when the Sabres are competitive, and with him being under contract only one season after this upcoming one, teams would find value in adding a player like Zucker.
