The Sabres have been on a great run to end the season as of late, but they will have to do it without these two players. Josh Norris and Jordan Greenway are being shut down for the rest of the season it looks like to deal with some nagging injuries.
Josh Norris was acquired at the trade deadline from the Ottawa Senators in the Dylan Cozens deal. However, Norris only saw the ice as a member of the Sabres three times before being shut down.
Now hopefully it is nothing serious for Norris, as they still never revealed his full injury as it is said to be undisclosed. In an article I wrote not too long ago, I mention that there could be a big trade in the works this offseason including Josh Norris.
This would involve a possible deal with Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks in what would bring a massive star into the Buffalo market. Whether it is Pettersson or not, it would explain why Norris hasn’t touched the ice. If he is set to be traded, then they don’t want to take time away from someone who will be here next year.
I think Norris is a solid player, but I think the Sabres would benefit more from using him in a trade for a bigger piece than on the team.
As for Greenway, there is no surprise here that we see him missing time. Since coming over to Buffalo via trade in the 22-23 season, Greenway has now missed over 85 games. He has played in about 100+ games, but if this keeps up he will easily be at the point where is injured more than he can play.
Oh and the Sabres are paying him four million dollars over the next few seasons as Kevyn Adams signed him to a contract extension. Why Adams did this, I couldn’t tell you. Greenway hasn’t impressed much since coming over from Wild and has regressed if anything.
Yet Adams found a way to pay him more money when he had younger players like Peyton Krebs and Zach Benson doing exactly what he could do. They are also much better offensively than Greenway and are now on better contracts as well.
I need someone to believe in me the way Adams believes in Greenway, because not letting him go I think will be a huge mistake in the next few years. They wasted cap space on a regressing enforcer who is constantly hurt when they could use that money to sign free agents or re-sign young talent.
If all goes well in the offseason, it would be nice to see these guys healthy and on the ice. However, if there are some trades and maybe some upgrades at their positions, I think the Sabres can benefit from that moving forward.
