Ilia Morozov, who joined the Buffalo Sabres organization as the No. 20 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Forward of the Week on Tuesday.
Morozov scored four goals for Miami (Ohio) during a home-and-home series against Robert Morris. He also registered seven shots on goal, two blocked shots and won 27 of his 47 faceoffs (57.4%).

The 18-year-old Russian center, who was the youngest player in college hockey during his freshman season for the RedHawks last year, now leads the NCAA with three power play goals in 2026-27. That's of particular interest to the Sabres given their extreme struggles with the man advantage.
Morozov tallied 20 points (eight goals and 12 assists) in 36 appearances for Miami last season.
The RedHawks are back in action this weekend when they host Alaska Anchorage for a two-game set starting Friday night.
Sabres' Ilia Morozov could make a jump to pro hockey before the 2027-28 NHL season
Although Morozov only turned 18 in early August, his two-way game is already advanced enough to believe he's on an accelerated path toward the NHL. He also benefits from a 6-foot-3, 204-pound frame that's prepared to handle the rigors of the pro game.
Exactly how quickly he reaches the Sabres' roster is up for debate, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him sign his entry-level contract with Buffalo after the current college season ends. The organization would then have the option for him to get some games in with the AHL's Rochester Americans during the latter stages of the 2026-27 campaign.
He'll likely need at least one full season with the Amerks before he becomes a serious option to fill a full-time role in Buffalo. That said, he could receive a cup of NHL coffee as early as 2027-28.
From a big-picture perspective, Morozov projects as a highly dependable middle-six center capable of becoming a net-front presence on the power play as well as a penalty killing contributor.
Fellow Buffalo prospect Matous Kucharcik also off to a strong start for Miami
Matous Kucharcik, a Sabres fourth-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft, joined Morozov with the RedHawks after a year with the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms.
He's another well-built forward (6'4'', 193 pounds), and he's already making an impact at the college level with four points (one goal and three helpers) in four appearances. He's also racked up 12 shots on goal during the club's 3-1-0 start.
Kucharcik has always looked like a steady defensive presence and a solid transition creator, but the question has been whether his offensive game will evolve enough to reach an NHL standard. He only compiled 16 points in 35 contests for Youngstown last season.
His start at Miami has been a lot more promising in that regard, and Buffalo will hope that trend continues for the remainder of his freshman year.
