Buffalo Sabres have voodoo curse, as proven by Josh Norris' injury

News of Josh Norris' recent injury, on top of a terrible season opener, might be an indication of a voodoo curse cast on the Buffalo Sabres.

The Buffalo Sabres got horrendous news regarding center Josh Norris. Head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed that the center will be out for a “significant amount of time.” The news has had some time to sink into Sabres fans’ psyches.

The injury came on top of the 4-0 blanking the New York Rangers handed the Sabres on Thursday night. So, literally speaking, the situation added insult to injury. The unfortunate sequence of events makes one think the Sabres may have a voodoo curse in place.

This isn’t something like the Curse of the Bambino, the Boston Red Sox dealt with for over 80 years. It’s more like a curse of the Billy Goat that the Chicago Cubs dealt with. According to the lore, the Chicago Cubs baseball team had a home game in which a gentleman attempted to attend the game with a goat in tow. He was not admitted into the game.

Upon his exit from Wrigley Field, the man proceeded to cast curses upon the Cubs. This incident happened around the 1940s. The Cubs had last won the World Series in 1908. They didn’t break the curse until 2016.

So, could it be that someone cast some sort of curse on the Sabres? Did someone bury a jersey somewhere? Was this some type of self-inflicted damnation?

Be that as it may, the Sabres have a tall order ahead of them. They can turn things around on Saturday night against the Bruins. It won’t be easy, but it’ll be a start.

Norris injury shouldn’t surprise Sabres

Getting awfully serious now, the Buffalo Sabres shouldn’t be surprised at the news of Josh Norris’ injury. Norris has had an extensive injury history. That was partially the reason why the Ottawa Senators were willing to move on from him when they did.

The Sabres rolled the dice on Norris when they traded him for Dylan Cozens last season. Cozens didn’t want to be in Buffalo anymore. So, instead of losing him in a bitter struggle, the Sabres tried to salvage what they could.

Of course, there’s no question about Norris’ talent. He’s as good as they come. But it’s his injury history that will likely put the Sabres behind the eight-ball now.

Unfortunately, Norris has only finished two of his four games with the Sabres. That’s no bueno as his time in the NHL could be done. While there’s always a chance Norris could come back, fans may have to grapple with reality.

The Sabres will need to rally behind their current crop of talent. They have the means to do it. It’s only a question of getting momentum and building on it as the season progresses.
