The Sabres have had an offseason full of rumors and headlines that leave fans questioning who will be on the team next year. With the Sabres needing to bring in a star player to bolster their playoff chances, Jason Robertson could be the perfect fit.
The Dallas Stars are right up against the cap space, and need to sign 5-6 players this offseason. With Robertson expecting a big payday, the Stars will look to get something out of Robertson before he leaves in free agency.
Robertson has scored 150 goals over the last four years and has averaged over 30 goals per season since the 2020 season. He has also been one of the best two-way forwards in hockey, as he has been in the running for the Selke award twice, and up for the Hart trophy multiple times as well.
Robertson is just entering his prime at 25 years old, and could alter the franchise he joins this offseason, and he could easily make the Sabres a top 3 offense in the league. The question that comes to mind for fans is what the Sabres will give up to get a talent like Robertson?
The Sabres will have to give up some young talent
Sabres Receive: Jason Robertson
Stars Receive: JJ Peterka, Jiri Kulich, 2025 9th overall pick
His name has floated around in a mix of different rumors, however, JJ Peterka would have to be a name that goes to Dallas, which will also allow the Sabres to pay Robertson his desired amount.
The Sabres would also give up their 9th overall pick in this year's draft as part of the deal. Normally, this could get the job done, but for Dallas to let a talent like Robertson go, they will need more.
Which is why Jiri Kulich would also be a part of this deal. It may seem like a lot, you will tell me it is too much, etc, etc. But the Sabres need another franchise-caliber player to push this team back to being a contender, and Roberston can do just that.
Robertson and Thompson could be an elite duo, and the line of Thompson-Norris-Robertson could be one of the best in hockey. If you haven’t seen Robertson’s highlights or watched some Stars hockey, you are missing out. If I’m the Sabres, I am going all in for Robertson this offseason.
