Jordan Greenway's rollercoaster season could cause more problems for the Sabres

After a lackluster 2024-2025 season, Jordan Greenway signing an extension with the Sabres could lead to more problems next season.

Kevyn Adams made a flurry of contract extension signings before the end of the year, one that was not on my bucket list was Jordan Greenway. Greenway struggled on and off the ice this year, and those problems could continue in the 25-26 season.

Greenway missed 10 games starting in the second month of the season in what was called a middle-body injury. He then returned for four games before getting surgery, returned again, then aggravated the injury in late March and missed the rest of the season.

Grade: C-

Greenway had a very lackluster season but somehow found his way into a larger payday. Greenway was non-existent on the offensive end of the ice, but wasn’t bad defensively. The main stat to look at for Greenway is his hits per game.

Greenway averaged 11.4 hits per 60 minutes this season, which was the third most on the Sabres this season, in just 34 games. Greenway also tallied 29 blocks last season, and with the pace he was recording them at, he had the chance to set a new career high if he didn’t get injured.

What will the 2025-2026 season look like for Jordan Greenway?

Greenway will have a lot to prove next season, as he says he looks to play in all 82 games next season. Is it possible? Yes. Will it happen? Most likely not. With his style of play, you get banged up pretty easily, and you will end up missing some games. However, if the Sabres can get 65-70 games out of Greenway, that would be perfect.

Greenway will most likely be on the third line again, as I could see him paring up with Zach Benson, and a free agent that the Sabres bring in. I also wouldn’t rule out putting Greenway on the fourth line to work with some of the younger prospects who might make the team next year, like Isak Rosen.

Greenway could mentor those younger prospects and bring the physicality that the lower lines need. Sabres fans will need to hope for a healthy and productive season from Greenway this year. Although I wasn’t a fan of Greenway’s extension, it has been made known that he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
