The Buffalo Sabres are finishing out the preseason with the first of two games against the Pittsburgh Penguins. They began to trim the roster, and we are starting to get a better idea of what the roster is going to look like when they take the ice against the New York Rangers.

One of the players who had no questions about his roster spot was Josh Norris, and he has gotten off to a great start this preseason. He showed off that skill against the Penguins with a highlight reel goal that started with him getting tripped as he was getting the puck.

However, Norris was able to keep control of the puck and bounce back up in time to beat Arturs Silvos for the Sabres' first goal of the game. It was an incredible play that the Sabres really needed, as they had just given up the first goal of the game when the Penguins were on the power play.

Josh Norris' role is clear for the Buffalo Sabres and he has a chance to have a breakout season

While Norris' spot on the roster was never in question, his role entering training camp was a little more uncertain. It wasn't clear who would be replacing JJ Peterka at center on the top line and the options seemed to be down to Norris and Jiri Kulich.

However, right from the start of training camp the Sabres have had Norris on the top line with Tage Thompson and Zach Benson. He has given the coaching staff no reason to believe he can't excel in this role.

The Sabres traded for Norris at the trade deadline last season, but he was only able to play in three games due to injuries. He is entering this season healthy and while fans might have had to wait, this goal is a good indication it might have been worth the wait.
