NHL training camp is right around the corner. As for the Buffalo Sabres, they are hoping that the 2024/25 season will be a bounce back year and hopefully, it will be the season where they end the playoff drought. In this article, here are three players fans should be looking forward to seeing this season.
1. Dylan Cozens
It was a down year for Dylan Cozens, as he struggled offensively and defensively. Put aside last year, Cozens scored over 30 goals in 2022/23. He earned himself a contract extension because of his excellent play and I honestly think last year was a wash for the workhorse from Whitehorse. While he wasn't the only one who took a step back, he was the most notable one as he struggled consistently. However, I see him bouncing back this year.
2. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen
The next player fans should be excited about is goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. I think it's pretty safe to say that Luukkonen was the Sabres MVP last year. After having a strong first half, UPL continued his good play in the second half of 2023/24. Due to his strong play, Ukko received a multi-year extension back at the end of July. I expect him to be better as he helps Buffalo end the playoff drought along with Devon Levi.
3. Mattias Samuelsson
This one is an unpopular choice but Mattias Samuelsson is the last player on the list. If he can stay healthy, then Buffalo will be in good shape on the blue line. It is a big if because of his past injuries but again, IF he can stay healthy, he will help out the Sabres this year. When he is healthy, Buffalo is a better team and hopefully Samuelsson can play either a full season or at least most of it.
