Up next in the "Best win" series, we are in the month of December. For their second last game before the Christmas break, the Buffalo Sabres hosted their heated rival, the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Sabres were looking to rebound in this game after an absolute embarrassing loss on home ice against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

After missing some time with an injury, Jeff Skinner returned to the lineup. Just a little over two minutes in, Jordan Greenway got things started for Buffalo. Toronto responded with two straight goals thanks to Auston Matthews and Max Domi before Owen Power tied the game at 2-2 shortly after Domi's goal.

In what was a high scoring first period, Skinner scored to give the Sabres their lead back again, and they were winning 3-2 heading into the first intermission. Three of the four goals scored in the second period were from the special teams unit for Buffalo and Toronto.

Rasmus Dahlin made it 4-2 on a Sabres power play before the Maple Leafs responded with a shorthanded goal. Tage Thompson gave Buffalo their two goal lead back before Kyle Okposo made it 6-3 Sabres with a shorthanded goal of his own.

In the third period, it was all Sabres. Jack Quinn scored his first goal of the season while Skinner and Okposo recorded their second goal of the game en route to a 9-3 Buffalo victory. This was my favorite victory for a couple of reasons.

Number one, it's always great to beat Toronto, especially on home ice. It's nice sending the Maple Leafs fans home with a victory. But it was also a great response for the Sabres after that awful effort the previous game against Columbus two nights prior.

This game was another result of Buffalo being inconsistent as it was a story all year long.
