Disregard Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg as a possible free agent signing for the Buffalo Sabres as he is supposedly going to retire. With that being said, the Boston Bruins are the next team. Boston has a few unrestricted free agents, which include Matthew Grzelcyk, Patrick Maroon, James van Riemsdyk and Kevin Shattenkirk.
However, there was one name left off, and he is the guy I would be thrilled if Buffalo could somehow sign him. This is more of a dream signing because I'm sure the Bruins are making him a top priority, but if he was available, the Sabres should swoop him and try to sign Jake DeBrusk.
While he is battling against the Florida Panthers in the second round, Jake had a solid season with Boston. In 80 games played, the Bruins winger scored 19 goals and recorded 21 assists. He was also a +4 on the year. The season before, DeBrusk had his best year as a pro with 27 goals and 23 assists.
General manager Kevyn Adams did say he is looking for a top-six player and while there are other options, Sabres fans should be happy if Buffalo ended up signing the Bruins forward. He is only 27 years old and has an AAV of $4,000,000. Adding DeBrusk to this top-six would put Buffalo in a good position.
With that being said, would he want to leave Boston and would he be willing to come to Buffalo? Only time will tell, but signing Jake would be a home run for Adams and the Sabres. New head coach Lindy Ruff and Adams said Buffalo is ready to take the next step as a franchise and the addition of DeBrusk would improve their chances of breaking the drought.
The next team who will be featured in this series are the...Buffalo Sabres.
