Unpopular opinion: Eric Robinson was a solid pickup for the Sabres
Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams will be fielding calls before the NHL trade deadline which is this Friday. While we don't know who will be traded, he did make one trade earlier in the season. Back in December, Adams acquired Eric Robinson from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick.
At the time, it wasn't a trade to be excited about. It was just a minor trade with the Sabres getting a depth piece. I can tell you that I didn't care for the trade at first. When I saw that Buffalo got Robinson, I was not amused. It was just one of those trades where you're not jumping up and down.
With that being said, Robinson turned out to be a solid pickup for Adams and the Sabres. His numbers this year with Buffalo are nothing crazy. In 34 games played with both Columbus and Buffalo, he has three goals and seven assists. As I mentioned earlier on, it was a trade for a depth player who might score now and then.
In his last two games, Eric has been on the scoring sheet. He had two assists in the victory over the Vegas Golden Knights and one goal in the loss against the Winnipeg Jets. Even though his numbers are not impressive, he is a good player to have in the bottom six.
He has stood out to me in the last few games. While he's not scoring a ton or registering points consistently, he's generating chances and will get physical from time to time. Looking back on it, the trade was good in a way.
Not in the way of generating offense, but because of what he can do as a fourth-liner. In the games he played in, Robinson has stood out and I would love to have him in the lineup each night.
