There has been a debate over who won the trade between the Buffalo Sabres and the Utah Mammoth. The Sabres received Michael Kesselring and Josh Doan in the process.
Doan has come on strong for the Sabres in the last few games, scoring 19 points in the early parts of this season. It seemed after many trades that NHL fans have criticized the Sabre organization but they may have gained the upper hand this time around.
However, this week, Peterka had something to say about the move. The German player scored two goals and assisted on two others in a 7-0 rout for the Mammoth over the Anaheim Ducks.
Sean McIndoe of The Athletic recently stated that the Sabres won the trade. However, if Peterka continues to have performances like the other night, it may be a back-and-forth debate all season as opposed to a quick answer.
For the Sabres, waiting and seeing if the trade works out may pay off as opposed to quick results.
All too often whether it be trades that included Stanley Cup winners, Ryan O'Reilly, Jack Eichel or Sam Reinhart, the Sabres seem to be on the wrong end.
However, O'Reilly was traded for Tage Thompson, and Eichel was traded for Alex Tuch. Both players the Sabres traded for are still with the team. If they have any hope of breaking their postseason drought, they will be the keys to that moment.
For general manager, Kevyn Adams, having a trade work out in the eyes of the public and those outside of the organization would pay dividends for the team. He has not had much time to try and fix the issues with little success.
Another question is how the trades have been regarded based on the success of players who have helped the teams that traded for them, the Sabres have not done well. Currently the Sabres are in last place in the Eastern Conference.
The Mammoth with Peterka is currently in the final wild card spot in the West.
Peterka has more points on the season, but Doan has played in one fewer game. It will be a debate that drags on throughout the year.
Hopefully, the Sabres will not be looking at yet another former player playing for a Stanley Cup while they begin their vacation early. Doan has the ability to be a game breaker, but for him and Western New York, they want to see it in the postseason.
