Will this forward still be a Sabre after the deadline?

The 27-year-old forward has had his name on the trade block as of late.

Jordan Greenway was a name that Sabres fans were excited about back at the trade deadline in 2022. The forward had inked a three-year, nine-million dollar contract before the 22-23 season with the Minnesota Wild. However, it has been an interesting road for Greenway while in Buffalo.

After coming over at the trade deadline in the 22-23 season, Greenway had a few goals but was realistically a non-factor in those 17 games. He then turned heads the next season, in his 67 games he put together 10 goals, 18 assists, and a plus-minus of +11. It seemed like this year Greenway was going to continue his pace of play, but injuries have limited him to just 20 games this season. For a guy making three million a year, his stats just aren’t cutting it, and it seems he will be just a one-year wonder for the Sabres. The question now is, can the Sabres get anything in return if they decide to trade Greenway at the deadline?

I don't know how good of a return the Sabres can get for Greenway, but they could definitely get some picks, and maybe a prospect for the 27-year-old. Greenway still has a lot of talent but with his contract running out at the end of the year, and being an unrestricted free agent, the Sabres trading Greenway and shedding cap space would be the best idea. I think these two teams would be solid landing spots for Greenway.

Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks would be a solid fit for Greenway as they have the most cap space available out of any team right now. Their rebuild has gone alright so far, but they have made jumps this year that could make them a playoff team in a year or two. I think bringing on a veteran like Greenway would help improve their lacking offense, which has put up a disappointing 2.48 goals per game. I think the Sabres could get a 4th and 6th-round pick for Greenway, and these picks would be useful for the Sabres as they could use them in future trades. The Ducks could resign Greenway at the end of the year on a smaller deal which would make it even for both sides.

Calgary Flames

Calgary is another team that has been making moves at the deadline already, as they have acquired both Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee from Philadelphia. Calgary is also a team that is trying to bolster their offense any way they can, and Greenway would be a good fit on their 3rd or 4th line, wherever they see fit. Calgary is averaging 2.64 goals per game but will need more if they want to make a run at a wild card spot. The Sabres could get a few different options, either a couple of picks, either 4th-round or 5th-round picks. Or they could go after a prospect/ AHL player like Dryden Hunt. Hunt has been a journeyman in his career, but has made an impact on most teams he has played for. Hunt would be a good reserve/4th-liner for the Sabres as brings that grit and physical mentality that the Sabres are lacking. Hunt has 51 points in his eight-year NHL career.

Although I think Jordan Greenway has a lot of talent. It doesn’t seem like those talents are going to be put to use in a Sabres uniform anymore. The Sabres are better off moving on from Greenway and shedding some cap space for other trades or free agency.
