Buffalo Sabres at IIHF World Championships: Day 6 — Ennis Scores

Buffalo Sabres center Tyler Ennis registered his second goal of the tournament on Wednesday at day six of the IIHF World Championships, being held in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Ennis had what would turn out to be the game-winning goal on Wednesday as Team Canada defeated Sweden by a score of 6-4.

The Buffalo Sabres center also registered two shots on goal in just over 12 minutes of ice time in Wednesday’s win.

Elsewhere, both Taylor Hall and Aaron Ekblad each had a goal and an assist in the victory. Patrick Wiercioch and Sean Couturier also scored, while Tyler Seguin potted an empty-net goal.

Sweden goals came from Filip Forsberg, Oscar Moller, Victor Rask and Anton Lander.

Former Buffalo Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth was not in net for Sweden in Wednesday’s game.

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Andrej Meszaros was also in action Wednesday, as Slovakia fell to Norway by a score of 3-2.

Meszaros played roughly 17 minutes of ice time before the night ended for him. He was served with a butt-ending penalty and a game misconduct at the 7:08 mark of the third period.

Mattias Norstebo had a pair of goals for Norway, while Mats Rosseli Olsen also scored. Slovakian goals came from Tomas Surovy and Marek Daloga.

Elsewhere, Latvia topped Switzerland by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday.

Kaspars Daugavins and Andris Dzerins scored for Latvia, while Matthias Bieber had the lone goal for Switzerland. Damien Brunner and Mark Streit each registered five shots on goal.

Finally, Russia topped Denmark, 5-2.

Artemi Panarin, Yevgeni Dadonov, Sergei Mozyakin (2) and Vladimir Tarasenko scored for Russia. Viktor Tikhonov led all skaters with five shots on goal.

Thomas Spelling and Morten Green scored for the Danes.

At the end of day six of the IIHF World Championships, Canada remains atop the Group A standings with a perfect 4-0-0-0 record and 12 points, plus a 28:8 goal differential. Sweden is second in that group at 2-1-0-1, while Switzerland is 2-0-2-0.

Team USA remains atop the Group B standings with their own perfect 3-0-0-0 record and nine points, plus an 11:4 goal differential. Russia is tied with the US with nine points, but they’ve played four games (3-0-0-1) and are thus in second in the group.

Russian forward Yevgeni Dadonov and Canadian forward Taylor Hall lead all skaters with eight points in four games. Loui Eriksson has seven points in four games, while Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene is one of several players to have registered six points in the tournament so far.

Buffalo Sabres center Tyler Ennis and Team Canada are now off until they face France on May 9, but Buffalo Sabres defenseman Meszaros returns to action today as Slovakia faces Finland.

Elsewhere, the United States plays Belarus, and the Czechs and French face off. Sweden and German also face off on Thursday.
