Just like the rest of the NHL teams, the Buffalo Sabres have some unrestricted free agents. Some of those names include Zemgus Girgensons, Tyson Jost, Victor Olofsson and Eric Robinson. After looking at the list of pending unrestricted free agents, defenseman Jeremy Davies is one of those players.
Davies signed with the Sabres a couple of years ago during free agency and has spent most of his time with Buffalo's AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. Even though he is not the most attractive name, I think he should be the player Buffalo brings back for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, he is not going to cost a lot of money as his AAV this year was $775,000. The other reason he should be brought back is because it will help the Sabres themselves as well as the Amerks. Jeremy had his best AHL season this year as he scored 12 goals and registered 23 assists in 66 games played with Rochester.
He unfortunately sustained an injury in the Amerks Game 5 loss against the Syracuse Crush, forcing him to miss the rest of the game. Ignoring the injury, he was a vital part of the Americans' success this season and was on the top pairing.
For Rochester, he is one of their top guys. As for Buffalo, he could be a key depth piece to bring back. The Sabres blue line needs some improvement and while Davies won't be considered heavily as an option, he could serve as a 7th guy or, like I just said, a depth player.
Some fans might be asking why not bring back Girgensons or Jost. To be honest with you, I think Buffalo should move on with Girgensons. As for Tyson, I'm not really sure. But the Sabres' bottom six needs to be revamped.
The next team Buffalo should steal an UFA from are the Calgary Flames.
